Joan Fisher's cases reminded me of something I now routinely ask about (of
referring RNs, CNMs, MDS, and the mom). You said baby had meconium
staining. Was this baby vigorously suctioned? If so, her throat may be sore
and that may be reason for resistance to feeding. Remember: bottle-feeding
can be forced on baby even when they don't watn to do it. Not so with
breastfeeding, which requires baby's active invovlement. This may not have
been the primary issue with this baby, but it is something to consider when
a baby steadfastly refuses.
