I read something on a parent board.  People don't listen when they feel
defensive or judged. 

I agree with Betsy and Melinda. 

 Most of the mothers I see who want to use formula have already used it
before I see them.  I do not want to show disapproval or judgment. If
asked, I tell them the formula is food and babies grow on it, but
breastmilk and breastfeeding are very special and name some health
benefits, and how sweet it is to hold your baby closely on the breast.  
Maybe my corner of the world is exceptional, but most of the women I work
with have already read about breast milk vs formula or have taken a
breastfeeding class.
