I find the suggestion of Bipolar Disorder fascinating. After reading about
the disorder on the web and
re-reading the original post, I just don't see much that correlates. What am
I missing? Here's why
it doesn't make sense to me.

- original post mentions very little sleep attained but more sleep needed,
or at least that is implied. Web info
indicates that little sleep is needed during the maniac phase.

- original post mentions a possibility of depression ... but doesn't say
why. Perhaps the person involved
can see clear mood swings and then the suggestions of bipolar disorder would
make sense to me.

- original post mentions that patient doesn't like "brief visits with
authoritarian treatment
recommendations." My point is that if she has a history of doctors
misdiagnosing
or a questioning mind, she won't just take a Dr.s word as gospel. That's
logical, isn't it?

- just a question, but would anyone sleep well if they gave birth to a child
with special needs? Doesn't
it take a while to gain understanding of the needs and accept your child?
Wouldn't all people adjust
to that news at different rates?

I guess in my experience, it seems that if a patient is at all emotional
about anything, and what
people aren't emotional about their children's health, that doctors think
something is wrong with
the person's mind. Maybe the original poster knows something is really
wrong. I would just be
concerned if she told this woman that she thought she was ill and further
isolated her.
