Dear Wise Ones, 


I permission to post to try to find possible answers for these mothers. 


1) First time mother, fully expected to breastfeed. Finds any touch by the baby at the nipple to be very painful, even if it is her knee bumping the breast not being nursed. Also finds pumping to be too painful at any pressure higher than the very lowest setting on the Symphony pump. MOB denies that it is an issue as part of foreplay. She tried to sort out the difference because the husband found it very puzzling that what he did was pleasurable but not what the baby did. She tried to explain that it had to do with the tugging the baby and pump did. MOB has been diagnosed with Reynaud's and finds the frozen food section a painful experience. She denies using caffeine or smoking. Suggestions were heat pre and post feeds and pumping at lowest setting even when on the higher cycle. Described the use of nifedipine as a treatment for Reynaud's and she stated that her MD felt her blood pressure was too low for that. 


All ideas appreciated as she would truly love to breastfeed. 


2) Mother with baby in the NICU, producing over 375 ml per day. NICU RN/IBCLC noted that a bottle of expressed breast milk that had been in the freezer for over 24 hours had not frozen. Other times her EBM had frozen as expected. I can't find any discussion of this when doing a quick search. Any thoughts?
