I was taught that if it isn't charted it isn't done. So if you don't make
your comments know you don't care one way or another. Everyone on LACTNET
SHOULD write. Lactation Consultants isn't a huge organization of women/men
but if everyone would write we could make a differance on this one. Maybe
our comments would be a "teaching moment" for the AAP. Mary Ann Krainz RN,

Subject: Re: [bfmed] FROM JAY GORDON Ross and the AAP book

Re Jay's posting about the Ross purchase of the AAP BF book for distribution
in
hosp d/c packs.

I think this controversy will hopefully be a blessing in disguise, because
the
fact that it happened at all just demonstrates how clueless the powers that
be at
the AAP are about the whole thing of the longstanding AAP/Ross connection--
I'm
sure they think they are doing moms a great service, how great for Ross to
help
distribute this to a wider audience, etc., they never heard of the WHO code,
and
even in its absence never thought that there was anything contradictory
about a
professional pediatric organization working with a commercial formula
company,
can't see an ethical conflict there, because after all, formula and
breastmilk,
they're both good for babies, right? And isn't Ross so civic minded? So the
response they are about to get is going to be a huge education for them.

Please let's be thoughtful and well reasoned, well spoken in our emails. We
need
to be heard and not dismissed.

(Also, let's not overwhelm Betty with email. Her plate is going to be full
enough.)
