Good morning,

Has anyone seen information stating that it is not safe for mothers that are positive for Hep C to breastfeed their infant? We and parents are being told by physicians that due to recent research these mothers should not breastfeed their infants and should be formula feeding. One explanation we/parents have heard is that with the combination of HIV and Hep C enzymes are released in the infant's gut when exposed to breastmilk and possible blood in the breastmilk leading to an increased risk of the infant acquiring Hep C. These are not mothers that are positive for both conditions. These are Hep C positive mom's in the hospital that are being told to formula feed. Thank you in advance for your guidance.
