Just want to share good news. I worked at a military hospital as a Level II nursery nurse for 17 years. All these years, I saw a need to help mothers with breastfeeding, little by little I devoted more and more time to helping mothers. I was the only one doing it. Last year, I was transferred to the Pediatric clinic and asked to make rounds on breastfeeding mothers. After one year, the ward closed and our mothers started delivering their babies at a Civilian hospital. The hospital calls itself a mother-child center but, although they have state of the art delivery rooms, their philosophy on breastfeeding is outdated. Every baby gets a pacifier, rooming in means the baby goes to mom when some one is available to take it to mom, etc.. Luckily, our midwives are allowed to practice there and they authorized me to go do my rounds. Also, they started a breastfeeding task force with some of their nurses, and that hospital is now working toward becoming Baby Friendly! how about that!. By the way, I decided I might as well be legal, and went for my exam and...passed!!!
(I had lost my sleep the past week). well, I am so exited I had to share. Esther.
