I meant to mention this last week. There was an article in the local paper
off the Boston Globe services about children who have 'feeding disorder'.
These appear to be kids who are extremely picky eaters, but it goes beyond
that to where they are completely unwilling to try new foods, or even think
about foods. The article I read only mentioned one child in detail, and
they said something like, "these kids do fine on the bottle but fall apart
when presented with solid foods." I remember reading here some time ago
about feeding, or sucking disorders in newborns leading to long-term feeding
disorders if the suck problem isn't solved. In other words, if a mother
just gives up on breastfeeding a newborn with a disorganised suck the baby
will have further problems down the road. If the mother persists with suck
training there is an organising effect and later feeding difficulties aren't
seen. Does this sound familiar to anyone, and does anyone have any
references, comments or anecdotes?
