Ketamine has a half-life of around two hours, which means most would be gone
in about 11 hours, not 12-18 hours. Of course, 11 hours is too long to wait
to begin breastfeeding.  I would try to "cheat" as much on the underside of
11 hours as possible to begin breastfeeding, or even better, follow the
general rule that when the mother is alert enough after the general
anesthesia, it means that anesthetic doses have been eliminated from the
mother's body, and she should then be able to breastfeed.
