To introduce a little levity to this serious discussion about the Sears and
Wyeth connection, I would like to put it in perspective with a worst case
scenario.
Things could always be worse. There are still many vital people committed to
breastfeeding promotion. I think the cause will be truly lost when:

Kathy B and Kathy A dissolve Lactnet and initiate Formulanet. Kathy D will be
an important contributor with her recommendations about bottle feeding
without guilt.

Jack Newman starts a practice in Plastic Surgery with a specialty in extra
large size breast implants.

Tom Hale wins the PDR Book of the Year Award for " Formula: The best choice
for Mothers taking Medications."

Diane Weissinger becomes the editor of the National Enquirer after her
thought provoking article: "Woman with six breasts demands 300% increase in
salary for her work as an exotic dancer."

Barbara Wilson Clay counsels speech and swallowing disordered individuals to
forget about breastfeeding and work on aggressive and obnoxious ways to get
everything you always wanted right NOW.

Pat Gima becomes CEO of the National Yeast Council and recommends that all
newborns have a liquid yeast emulsion instead of milk for their first feeding.

Pat Young leaves her practice as a PNP and becomes a formula co. rep visiting
all the hospital units with delicious trays of donuts.

Valerie Maclain wins the Lasker prize in Medicine for her patent on
genetically engineered formula which is "Just like mother's milk."

Heather and Magda set up their own scale and pump monopoly in England and
have a decree passed that all mothers have to pump and measure "to be on the
safe side."

Jan Barger leaves her devoted family and lc practice to run off with Gary
Ezzo and head up the Babywise enterprise.
