Theresa and other posters,
    I think being familiar with the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding,
and how they are currently being interpreted (espec Step 4)  would be very
useful indeed for doula training.  That, plus understanding the
setting/stooling norm and how to recognise an effective breastfeed (milk
transfer is occurring), plus knowing where to refer for specialist lactation
trouble-shooting, i.e. a directory of local private practice IBCLCs or a
lactation clinic (Step 10 of the Ten Steps).
    Some of these points have been made, using other wording.  Familiarity
with the Ten Steps takes up a lot of this.  If a ready reference is needed,
try the WABA BFHI Action Folder (2000).  (I need to declare that I was
co-writer.)
