Two years prophylactic amoxicillan is standard treatment here. Both my sons
had recurrent utis (both exclusively bf) and I was warned that this would be
our fate if the MCU's came back positive. I undertook to take the
children's temperature twice daily and treat them only if there were signs
of infection - my docs were not altogether happy with this but when I
explained that I understood the risks to my kids' kidneys, there was no
further argument. (I pulled rank - 'You are the doctor. I am the mother.
I outrank you.')
