Re the scandal about Delta throwing a breastfeeding mother off a flight, I would suggest flying El Al. Returning on a night flight to Tel Aviv from New York last month, a large percentage of the passengers were either breastfeeding or being breastfed. There was a number of large families with babies and toddlers sleeping at the breast throughout the flight. And ultra-orthodox men who negotiate with the cabin crew to change places because they won`t sit next to a strange woman did not seem to be at all bothered by the lactation activities going on throughout the flight (discreetly of course)
I who fidget and fret on long flights, can`t sit still and can`t sleep was full of admiration for a family who occupied a block of eight seats in front of us. Mother about six months pregnant, , father, four children aged from about 6 down to 15 months, these parents handled the cramped conditions and tired children magnificently. They sorted out their food, the mother breastfed the toddler, and then they settled them all down to sleep. There was not a squeak out of them for several hours (except for toddler who woke up to breastfeed). When they all woke up, they ate their breakfasts, washed their faces and settled down to read or draw pictures. And the parents were still smiling!
