Have you watched her pump? I would recommend having her bring her pump and observing and correctly fitting her for a breast shield. It's often surprising how much difference there can be when they are fitted properly. Could her pump be old and wearing down? Has she watched the hands-on pumping video? That may help. http://newborns.stanford.edu/Breastfeeding/MaxProduction.html Also, has she varied the time of day in which she is pumping? Most mothers get the most milk production in the morning. But if she is working and studying and breastfeeding, stress is probably a factor for her. Once I had a mother tell me this and it turns out that when she had the larger production, the baby was nursing on one breast and she was pumping the other. Tricia Shamblin, RN, IBCLC

Subject: variable supply

We have a mother who is exclusively bf a 6 month old. She has been back to
work for a while now, but when she pumps she will get as much as 18 oz one
day, and only about 3oz another day! She has tried different pumps,
different flanges, massage (tho I am not sure how skilled her massage is).
So my colleague and I are wondering what else she could do? She is a
financial institute employee, but just sat for the CLC exam and passed it!
