HI All,
Cindy wrote that a 10lb baby may need supplement bc of low blood sugar...

My personal opinion is put the baby on the breast and leave him there. Let
Mother (Nature) do her thing and watch the baby. As long as the baby is
doing well, keep the artificial stuff out of his body.

My last baby was 9'6oz (a full 2 lbs heavier than his siblings) and low
blood sugar was not even a thought.

Another thought...what did we do 100 + years ago when a large baby was born?
There were no "supplements" to feed them in case of low blood sugar levels,
were there? In fact, I wonder, was low blood sugar even a concern? Why
must we medicalize (is this a word?) a normal baby into abnormal simply
because he is large. Looking back at my own births, and those of other
people I know, I can see that a good healthy term baby is one that weighs
above the "average" we have come to expect. The medical community says that
the average weight of term babies is 6.5-7.5 lbs. Reading books that my
midwives gave to me to read, and talking to others in the midwifery
community, I discovered that that "average" is low, and that a good weight
for a healthy term baby is more like the 7.5lbs +.

What is the problem of having a bit of low blood sugar for a day or two
anyway? WOn't the colostrom fix that in a hurry, especially when the baby
is WITH THE MOTHER and ON THE BREAST??

Wanting more info on this low blood sugar thing...
Waiting for big, term babies to be looked at normal...
