Hello, Denny.
You've already gotten lots of good responses about reflux, oversupply,
etc. I just wanted to add a couple of thoughts. Mylicon does nothing to
stop the production of gas. The simethicone simply coats large gas bubbles, and
the weight of the simethicone then breaks the large bubble into smaller
bubbles, which are theoretically easier for the baby to pass (burps or toots). But
it doesn't attack the underlying problem that is *causing* the gas.
Secondly, mom did the elimination diet for 2 weeks. When Diana Estep
did her presentation on her colic study, she said that a couple of moms had to
give up dairy for *3* full weeks before all the protein was out of her body.
When babies were put to the breast of these moms at 2 weeks or even 2 1/2
weeks, they immediately became very uncomfortable again. So when mom is running
food trials, she may need to run them for 3 weeks, before deciding she isn't
getting anywhere.
Have you suggested that mom and dad start doing "family detective
work"? They need to ask all relatives if they know of anyone in the family who
has a food that "doesn't agree with them." That will get them much better
answers than than asking about "food allergies", which most people think of as only
hives. By the way, you said mom was eating salad. Did she remember to leave
out the cheese, and did she avoid ranch dressing, which many people don't
remember is made with buttermilk? Did she cook the chicken herself? If given to
her by friends or bought somewhere, she needs to know that many people dip
the chicken in milk to make the batter stick. Likewise, many people "bread" the
chicken with corn flake crumbs. Mom also needs to consider what she is
*drinking* in addition to what she is eating. One mother I worked with couldn't
drink decaffeinated coffee, but her baby could tolerate it when mom drank
regular. Go figure!
Good luck to this mom and baby.
