Dear fellow LactNuts --
First, a thank you. I have already learned so much from all of you in just a
few months. You have given me courage and the ability to push against other
physicians' beliefs about BF, society's beliefs about where babies belong,
great technical info, and some good giggles.
Second, two requests. While I think I am better than the average doc when it
comes to BF support and knowledge, being on this list has made me aware of
how hodge-podge that knowledge is. I would appreciate the titles and authors
of your favorite lactation texts (professional and lay), so that I can
enhance my knowledge and advise patients on which books may be useful for
them. The other request is for advice on a somewhat personal level. Due in
large part to all of your encouragement (direct and indirect), my 4 m/o has
been coming w/ me to teach medical students, to job interviews, etc. It's
wonderful (my medical students cuddle her during breaks, and go right on
talking while I nurse her), except for the fact that I seem to have another
spirited child, who at 4 months thinks anything is more interesting than
sleeping or nursing. So, if we're away from home, she doesn't eat or sleep
well, which makes for a pretty miserable late afternoon and evening. Any
thoughts or suggestions from all you more experienced folks eagerly received.
I realize that while the first request may be of list interest, the second
probably isn't, so please reply privately. Many thanks!
Your comrade in arms,
Elizabeth Steiner MD
