Have any of you seen this?
<A HREF="http://www.aap.org/new/sids/sids.htm">Task Force on Infant
Positioning and SIDS Pos...</A>

It is startlingly unenthusiastic about co-sleeping, and makes the statement:

<<"Recently, scientific studies have demonstrated that bed sharing,
between mother and infant, can alter and synchronize sleep patterns of
mother and infant. These studies have led to speculation in the lay
press that bed sharing, sometimes referred to as co-sleeping, may also
reduce the risk of SIDS. While bed sharing may have certain benefits
(such as encouraging breastfeeding), there are no scientific studies
demonstrating that bed sharing reduces SIDS. Conversely, there are
studies suggesting that bed sharing, under certain conditions, may
actually increase the risk of SIDS."

Now, I know I have read studies linking reduced risk of SIDS with
bedsharing--were these not replicated, or was their methodology called into
question? Does anyone know why these studies did not make the grade with the
AAP? Furthermore, does anyone know James McKenna's e-mail @ Notre Dame if he
has one? I am sure he would have these answers if anyone does.

I hope this is ok to share on Lactnet? Let me know if it is not, please.
