hi
regarding the question about cleft palate feeders. Babies with cleft palates use a similar mechanism
to remove milk to babies without cleft. Their only issue is that they cannot create sufficient negative pressure
to draw milk out of a breast or bottle due to the cleft. The Pigeon cleft palate feeder is one option designed
to rely primarily on compression of the bottle teat for milk removal. It is a very soft teat and preferred by surgeons
in our region (New Zealand) as the babies can continue using them after surgery. With other feeders they often
need a non sucking feeding method while their palates are healing after surgery. The Haberman feeder is also
effective as the feeder can assist by squeezing the teat releasing some milk which complements the amount the baby can get through compression and creation of negative pressure (albeit limited).
