I suppose mom in fact did have a plentifull supply and the baby did not ave to use any kind of technique to receive all the milk he needed and then some.
  But this type of abundant supply may very well taper off if baby is not using good, stimulating, drinking techniques. This will then show a couple of months later as undersupply. That is one good reason to try and regulate early oversupply and evaluate breastdrinking techniques.
