FYI: While this isn't directly bf-related, I think there is a ton of useful
info for LCs at this set of sites. Use it however you wish...no, I do not
have any affiliation with KFF (other than being on a grant they funded
several years back).

"The Kaiser Family Foundation today launched a new Internet resource that
offers comprehensive and current health information for all 50 states, the
District of Columbia and U.S. territories. State Health Facts Online, at
www.statehealthfacts.kff.org, offers health policy information on a broad
range of issues such as managed care, health insurance coverage and the
uninsured, Medicaid, Medicare, women¹s health, minority health, and
HIV/AIDS.

This free resource - intended for journalists, state and federal
policymakers, researchers, and other interested parties -- allows users to
easily view information for a single state or compare and rank data across
all 50 states and compare it to U.S. totals. Information on more than 200
topics is displayed in easy-to-read tables and color-coded maps, and can be
downloaded for customized comparisons.

Click on the links below to find answers to questions such as:

- Which three states have the highest percentage of uninsured residents?

- Which three states have the highest percentage of the population in Health
Maintenance Organizations (HMOs)? http://statehealthfacts.kff.org/HMOs/

- How many states give people the right to appeal a health insurance plan¹s
denial of benefits to an independent medical expert?
http://statehealthfacts.kff.org/externalreview/

- Which states have the highest rate of infant deaths?
http://statehealthfacts.kff.org/infantdeaths/

- Which states have the highest total Medicaid spending per person?

- Which three states spend the most on health care as a percentage of their
gross state product? http://statehealthfacts.kff.org/healthspending/

- Which states have the largest number of people living with AIDS?
http://statehealthfacts.kff.org/aids/

- How many states have programs that make prescription drugs more affordable
for the elderly? http://statehealthfacts.kff.org/drugassistance/

The state-by-state data available on the site cover a wide variety of health
policy topics including health insurance coverage and characteristics of the
uninsured, minority health - including breakdowns of data by racial/ethnic
group, enrollment and spending for Medicare, Medicaid and the S-CHIP
program, population demographics, and health status measures.

State Health Facts Online can be accessed at www.statehealthfacts.kff.org or
through the Foundation¹s primary website at www.kff.org, where users can
access all of the Foundation¹s reports and analyses on health issues. "

SEE YOU ALL AT ILCA!!
