Chris-

Try MELD in Minneapolis (612)332-7563, 123 N. 3rd St., Minneapolis,
MN 55401.

They have a series of four cards (8.5 x 11 in) / posters (17 x 22 in)
that deal with infant growth, birth through 2 years . The cards are
entitled "Learning to Play", "Learning to Talk", "Becoming a Person",
and "Growing Strong". They give the range in which various
developmental tasks, (physical, social, language, etc) are achieved.
I've found that to be very helpful in reassuring parents that their more
placid baby is normal when compared to the friend's overachiever!

These developmental series cards are also available in Spanish.

MELD has many wonderful resources for those working with teen parents,
impoverished parents, cultural minority groups, etc. They offer
trainings to help other agencies / organizations avoid having to
re-invent the wheel.

To make this breastfeeding related: I have not seen the revision of
their book for teen parents called "The Middle of the Night Book,
answers to Questions You may Need to Ask When No One is Around", but
the breastfeeding information offered in the first edition is hard-core
late 70's, early 80's. "You must eat these foods every day, drink this
amount of water and limit baby to no more than 15 minutes", etc. Much
of the other information in the book is still excellent advice for the
teen parent trying to make it on his or her own.
