Now, let me get this straight, the mother does not have high cholesterol,
but she is being treated with a cholesterol lowering drug? Is something
wrong with this picture? Does this speak volumes about the state of medicine
in the year 2000?

Whenever we treat with a drug, we should weigh the benefits of the drug
against the risks. In this case there appear to be no benefits. What on
earth is she being treated for, never mind the implication that someone will
tell her to stop breastfeeding because she "needs" it.

Tom Hale warns against its use in nursing mothers, but I don't see why. It
has very high protein binding, and low oral bioavailability. Even if the
mother needed it though, stopping the drug for a year or two would not
likely make a big difference in her life. But in this case there is no
reason.
