I don't know if anyone else has seen the commercial
playing during the Olympics from McDonald's titled (I
think) "the Original Olympics". It shows a number of
pregnant women, with words like determined, unafraid,
focused, etc., and then shows a woman in labor, then a
newborn. It ends with a salute to "the original
Olympic", IE. giving birth. I was so impressed by it
that I sent the following email to Mc Donald's. I
found the contact us form on the corporate website by
following the links to Contact Us, then for marketing
campaigns.

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

I just saw your Olympics commercial showing pregnant
women and honoring the "original Olympic event". I
applauded when it was done.

I am a Certified Nurse Midwife in Milwaukee, WI.
Yesterday morning I attended a birth, where, as the
woman was pushing out the baby, I commented to the
medical student who was with me that she needed as
much strength, and was making as much effort as an
Olympic athlete to bring that baby into the world.

I try, at nearly every birth I attend, to honor women
for their strength, courage, determination, and
selflessness in nurturing and giving life to the next
generation. To have a major corporation "get it" and
join me and other midwives and physicians in
recognizing the enormity of this everyday event, is
thrilling. Thank you so much for giving women their
well deserved recognition and respect.

I think this would be an absolutely wonderful
promotion to run every year at Mother's Day. That
would really honor the meaning of the day!
