Sorry if this has been mentioned already; I'm a bit behind on my Lactnet
readings.

The American Academy of Family Practice has recently issued its 34-page (!)
Policy and Position Paper on Breastfeeding. With all the other news these
days, not surprising that the press release got ignored. Whole thing
should be posted on the AAFP website (www.aafp.org) within the next few weeks.

Recommendations are for exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months and continued
breastfeeding with complementary foods for a year or longer. It also
addresses many other issues not covered by either the AAP or ACOG
statements, though, such as working mothers, mothers in the military,
adoptive breastfeeding, babies in special situations, medical education,
physician as breastfeeding advocate, etc. and includes appendices of
practice standards for supporting breastfeeding from prenatal visits
through labor and delivery and through the first years of baby's life.

not to brag, but I was on that committee
