<<I am confused. In one of the paragraphs it states that new research
shows
that more than half of SIDS deaths happen when the baby sleeps with its
parents. Where in the world did this research come from? I have never
heard this
anywhere? Anyone else??>>

Rene, thank you for asking that question. I was thinking that very same
thing this morning, and then thought perhaps I read it wrong. Can anyone
enlighten both of us?

By the way, my response to parents who are asking about the AAP dictum is
something like this: "The AAP has made a recommendation that not all
pediatricians or lactation consultants agree with, myself included. How you parent
your baby is your choice. Giving a pacifier to a formula fed infant may help
prevent the abnormal deep sleep which is not healthy sleep for an infant, and
makes them more prone to SIDS. Breastfed babies already sleep in a normal
pattern, therefore they don't need pacifiers. But it is easier for the AAP to
make a blanket statement rather than try to separate formula fed infants from
breastfed infants.

If you choose to bedshare, this is how to do so safely....blah blah blah."

Now how that is going to square with hospital administration when you are
employed by a hospital is anyone's guess.....
