Hi! My name is Nikki Wacker, MD (pediatrician in Houston, TX) and recent new member of LACTNET. I have been enjoying reading the commentaries over the last week or so.
Anyway, I would like to respond to Diane and her question in regards to flu shots for infants. The AAP has "encouraged" flu shots for infants age 6 mos. through 23 mos. this year. Next year it will be "recommended". The reason for this is that infants are considered high risk from complications of the influenza virus (i.e. pneumonia, hospitalization, ear infections, and even death). I certainly have been encouraging my patient to get is as Houston has been hit especially hard this year with an unusually early and severe flu season.

Hope this helps!!
