Is there any published knowledge of the effects of maternal Haldol on
breastfed babies? Am working with a baby whose mother just recieved an
injection of Haldol (for seizures!?!) that is supposed to last three months.
Mom is now off the dilantin and a high blood pressure meds for Severe PIH
(pregnancy induced hypertension). She apparently is s/p a craniotomy several
(don't know exactly how many) years ago for a brain tumor that has left her
partially sighted. She was told by the doctors that she should not breastfeed
because of the Haldol. Is there anything to do after an injection. How can an
injection of this type of meds last three months? She lives with her mom and
has lots of good support. She said she would like to breastfeed if she could.
Baby was born at 34 weeks, now 35 5/7 weeks. I suggested she start pumping,
at least to start. The thought has crossed my mind: could the brain tumor
have had some effect on the pituitary and/or affect her milk producing
capacity?

I have put in a search to the listserve for Haldol in the archives, but I
would appreciate any other other input or experience. Please answer privately
as well as to the list because I am currently NO MAIL. Thanks.
