Sue Watson, chairperson of TABS (Trauma and Birth Stress), has requested that I let my colleagues know about a new study, "Birth Trauma: Its Impact on Breastfeeding." She and Cheryl Beck are the principal investigators. Here is their brief description of the study: "In order to help clinicians understand the effects of birth trauma on mothers' decisions to breastfeed and on their breastfeeding experiences, Professor Cheryl Beck and Sue Watson, Chairperson of TABS are now conducting a study on this topic. Women who have experienced birth trauma and who may or may not have been diagnosed with PTSD due to chilbirth, are invited to participate in this study." The TABS website (www.tabs.org.nz) will soon have more information about the study and how women can participate.

I find the initiation of this study very exciting. I hope that it will add significantly to our understanding, as there is very little information available on the topic. I am finishing up the manuscript of a chapter related to my own research on traumatic birth and breastfeeding. I look forward to learning the results of this new study as well as to the conduct of still more studies in the future as the importance of the impact of birth practices on breastfeeding becomes more deeply appreciated.

Please let mothers know about this important opportunity to share their wisdom. Attached are the recruitment advertisement and information sheet for participants. If the attachments did not come through, please contact TABS (www.tabs.org.nz) for more information.

Thank you!

Cynthia
