it's actually not that hard though.  the perfect combination is Harvey
Karp's 5 s's and _The No Cry Sleep Solution_.

also,  if the 5 mo old is spending the day doing 'normal' stuff, there
is no concern about the baby sleeping swaddled.

over time you change the swaddle to leave one arm out.....loosen in
otherways, it's a natural and simple progression.

but again, ime it depends on what the mom wants.  some moms want to do
the hardline nurse-them-back-to-sleep-throughout-the-night (I did
that).   but many of my post partum doula client moms want/need
4-5hours at night of solid uninterrupted sleep.  for those moms, a
combo of the 5's and elizabeth pantley's book are a lifesaver.  of
course the big drawback in my mind is that LAM rules are broken and
birth control becomes an issue.
