Someone asked what rec's exist in other countries re. solids.

Here, the official advice from the department of Health is '4-6
months' but only a few mothers leave it until 6 months or later.
There is *enormous* pressure on mothers to think of 4 months as the
very latest starting point. The 'window of opportunity' and
'teachable moments'  rubbish is also very common from health
professionals. Our official stats show that most mothers start
between 3 and 4 months.  Formula fed babies are more likely than bf
babies to start solids early.

I often hear from mothers of healthy, thriving babies of 6 or 7
months who only take a few solids intermittently, and whose health
visitors are telling them to *cut back on the bf* to 'make room' for
solids. This is also the case with babies who are gaining weight
slowly.
