IMO the writer sounds like she not only was overwhelmed with becoming a
mother but also possibly suffered some PPD.
I am pretty surprised how 50/50 it seems with first time mothers. Half
just seem to flow into the mode with a couple of bumps and half seem like
this mom- totally wiped out. The easiest thing to blame is breastfeeding for
those who tried. Otherwise it would leave them to feel like a bad mom..
typical PPD response.
I am angry that somewhere along the line, our system- whether medical or
social,
leaves moms like this writer feeling bitter and a "failure".
Sadly, most medical facility's don't also have prominent posters talking
about PPD and too many moms are left adrift when trying to adjust to
motherhood.
I suspect with the next child she will either feel less overwhelmed with
coping with a new baby and hopefully enjoy new motherhood more. That's where
I'm left feeling so very sad for her.
