Robin,
I recently referred a client with persistent nipple yeast to a breastfeeding
friendly family practice doc who cultured everything in sight and found no
yeast. It was her clinical impression that the mom was suffering from contact
dermatitis left over from the yeast treatment (months of nystatin). She
prescribed lubricating it with lansinoh or vit E. The mom used vit E and the
dermatitis resolved. She is nursing without pain or discomfort.
