The Code is about Marketing. Marketing is the fine art of convincing
people to buy things they don't really need. There is nothing wrong
with selling pumps to mums who need them. There is nothing wrong with
selling bottles and teats to mums who need them. There is even
nothing wrong with selling artificial baby milk to mums who need it.
However, it is wrong to promote (market) these products in such a way
that people who don't need them buy them. This is what marketing is
about, convincing people to buy things they don't need so you can sell
more than if you only sold them to people who needed them. There is
also nothing wrong with telling people about a product, what it does,
how it does it and how it differs to other products on the market.
what is wrong is marketing your product so that it looks better than
all the other equal products out there. These are the things the code
is trying to stop. The code is not trying to stop mums who need them
from using pumps and bottles, just trying to stop people convincing
mums who don't need them to use them.
