::snort:: My town has a med school. They get exactly *one* lecture on
breastfeeding, from a pediatrician. I interviewed this guy when looking
for a pedi for my son, and he informed me that mothers' milk generally
dries up at six months, so I shouldn't plan to nurse longer than that.
Oh, and he tells mothers whose infants "hang" on the breast more than 20
minutes to "get them them off of there because they're just using you as
a pacifier!" Par for the course, I'm afraid. The good news is that this
year's class is very interested in breastfeeding, and wants more
knowledge than he has to offer, so the local peer counseling group is
recruiting nursing moms to go show the students what a good latch looks
like, testify that breastfeeding is not supposed to be painful, etc. I
am looking forward to it :)
