For our Humanities in Health Care discussion series, I'm in the midst of
reading _The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down_by Anne Fadiman. It's the
story of a Hmong family in California and their encounters with health care
professionals with their epileptic baby daughter.
I just read about the baby's foster mother, who realized within days of the
toddler coming to her that the baby was used to nursing all night. She took
the baby in bed with her (the anthropologist author specifically mentions
their 10-1/2 foot bed) and nursed her along with her own nine month old.
I have NO clue about the legalities but let me tell you I was blubbering
reading that!
