I really labored over how much to say and decided to stick with the
impact of the ad on potential readers rather than the Code violation
and the betrayal those of us in the field feel.
Hopefully by not being overly confrontational (as I would really
have liked to be!) it has a better chance of being listeded to. No
response yet.

"Like many others I was surprised to see your site with a formula ad
across
the top. I did read your response to an earlier letter about this.
I would
agree with you that if a parent is going to use artificial baby milk
they
should know that they do not have to pay a lot for name brands. To
that
extent, I can understand your position.

The thing that bothered me was more the impact. When first going to
the
site, the first thing that catches one's eye is the cute blocks
emblazoning
"BABY FORMULA" across the top. Someone unfamiliar with your
tremendous
support for breastfeeding and attachment parenting will first think
you are
endorsing formula for all babies. With such an initial impression,
later
comments supporting breastfeeding can lose much of their impact.

Is there any way to make the formula promotion less prominent?
While I
personally would prefer to see no advertising of formula, if the
first
message was "BREASTFEED YOUR BABY'" with the "if you must use
formula
consider the following....." less prominent would certainly be less
upsetting.

Thank you for considering our opinions.

30 years"
