  Does this sound like growth spurt feeding?

Its impossible to know without more information. How is the wt.gain, any 
nipple pain, does she use compression?
Also, increasing Mom's calorie content will not increase milk quality.   Take 
a look at some good breastfeeding references for further infor. :).
