1. Cut down on night nursings -- night nursings release more prolactin than
day nursings
2. Cut down on frequency of nursings -- prolactin is released every time
baby starts suckling, and something related to the prolactin (though
apparently NOT the prolactin itself) suppresses ovulation
3. Make sure she weighs enough -- low body fat increases the amount of
prolactin released with each suckling episode
4. Give more solids to the child so they won't want to nurse so much
5. Try to go for one stretch of 6-8 hours without nursing at all during
each 24 hour period
She should be able to resume ovulation and menstruation while continuing to
lactate and breastfeed.
