I checked the archives and did not find an answer to my query which is:
what are the chances of successful bfg for women with tubular breasts ?
A 17 year old has asked me this, prior to op. I read in the archives that the cases mentioned did not really succeed in sustaining a milk supply. In your collective clinical experiences, have there been tubular breasts that HAVE been able to produce. I would like to be able to tell her that there is a chance but I don't really know. An SNS can also be hooked up to the breast that doesn't produce, as easily as one that does. So, what would you recommend for this 17 year old that cares enough about bfg to call me??????
The surgeon has told her that there are 4 degrees of tubular breasts. and hers are a 4 (the worst, evidently). Because I have never come up against this, are there other questions we need to know the answers to? Diameter is approx. toilet tissue roll thickness (isn't that a professional description??) and the nipple points downwards instead of outwards. that is all I have so far.
Please reply to my email as well as to the list.
thanks,
Ellen Shein, IBCLC tel aviv.
