Cindi points out how dads can help mom with nursing. I frequently
point out that when I look at how a baby is positioned and latched,
I am looking from a different angle than Mom is and may see some
things she can't see. One in particular is whether baby has both
cheeks pressing equally on the breast-in other words, is the breast
"square" in baby's mouth so the nipple isn't pointing more toward
one side than the other. (Of course, we want it aimed more "up"
than "down". This is easy for moms to see in the football/clutch
position, but not as easy in cradle or cross-cradle. If I think
this is a problem, I show Dad how it looks when it is "right" so he
can check for Mom until she knows the "right" feel better. He can
also be in a position to remind her to keep her fingers off the back
of baby's head.

Winnie
