This is a really interesting observation.  Breastfeeding women are often
depicted as headless or their breasts as disembodied, somehow separate from
the woman or mother herself. (actually breasts themselves are very often
disembodied commodities in our media) There is an emerging body (excuse the
pun) of feminst literature about this.  Alison Bartlett has written about
it, here in Aus.  It is argued that this effects the way we see, understand
and value breastfeeding mothers and how mothers understand themselves.
