Dear Friends,
In work we have a few pumps. Hospital Grade Ameda Egnell, and Medela, as
well as a couple of these horrible reverse motor lung aspirators that were
changed into a pump. They are very common here in Israel, I am not sure if
you have them in the states. Of course when I give any instructions on
pumping, I explain the differences, cycles per minute, etc, and how the
hospital grade ones are far superior, etc. Recently, I have come across a
couple of women who can pump for 15 minutes with the Medela or Egnell, and
get nothing... I mean not even wet the bottom of the bottle, and when they
pump with the other awful one they can get out about 30 cc.
My question is this. From my understanding, when we tell mothers to pump
we tell them to do it for the stimulation, don't worry in the begining what
comes out, etc. But is it better to actually extract the milk, or to have
a better pump stimulating the breast?
Why are these excellent hospital grade machines not extracting the milk?
Thanks,
Jessica Billowitz
