Does anyone have any experience with the shields made by Avent?

A girlfriend called me and told me that her family doctor told her to buy
some nipple shields and that she could get them anywhere. I have never seen
them for sale but went looking and found Avent's at Babies R Us (Toys R Us
type store with only baby clothes and paraphernalia). I told her to call
the hospital where she delivered and to work with an LC but she thinks that
these shields will help because her doctor told her they will.

Any advice for me since I will probably be taking these to her? I am a peer
counselor and this is beyond my level of comfort but she is reluctant to
call an LC. And I would feel better observing her with the shields than for
her to buy them on her own.

Her baby was born on 3/21.
