Hi Erika,
Wow, it sounds like this mom/baby have really had a hard time of it.
If it has been 10 wks and still such problems and slow growth, I really
would
consider to fully treat mom for bacterial infection with antibiotics, I
would actually
suggest some paced bottle feeding (done in ways to preserve bf - there is a
book out
and the Dee Kassing article) to perhaps help baby's suck, and to help
nipples heal. Not
all the feeds would have to be by bottle, but perhaps finding a balance
until things
get better. Attention to mom's general health, diet, stressors. Find the
best way
for mom to express -- be it by pump or by hand. Perhaps renting a good
hospital
grade pump, make sure flanges are a good fit. Vasospasm can be a result of
all the
trauma, but she can do the warmth or the medication nifedipine. If she is
able can
she kangaroo mother care the baby (or babywearing) to help them both heal
the trauma.
