From a very long article, just a statistic (I don't know where it comes
from) on how many women need lactation consultancy:

There's a widespread myth about breast-feeding: Mother Nature provided
the
equipment, so surely Mother Nature will make it work.

   But up to a fourth of women will need help from a professional who's trained
to deal with breast-feeding difficulties, and 10 percent of moms will have
serious problems - like separation from a baby who must stay in the hospital -
that need intervention.  ...
