Hello,
I have had several mother's from South America and Mexico who use the
following smoothie type drink as a "milk tonic". The directions were
actually given to me by a father who had seen the women in his village use
it many times over:
Approx. 1/2 c. oats
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp sugar
2 cups milk
6 ice cubes
Blend in blender as a breakfast drink or snack.

I researched the internet for oatmeal as a galactagogue and actually found
several resources to support this information. I share this information
with our Hispanic mothers if they do not suggest it themselves when their
milk supply begins to lag.

On another note...I too have recently felt an increasing importance for a
degree program in Lactation Mgmt. So much to know, so many skills, so
much cross information. I am currently hammering away towards my MSN but
do not know which path to take as I approach the Nurse Practitioner role???
Neonatal or OB/GYN, I vascilate each day as I feel neither completely meet
the needs of our patients...wish there was a combined with a specialty in
Lactation Mgmt. Is there one being developed. I would love to see it
happen at Arizona State University...anyone game?

Off for a 4 day Golden Door spa retreat to get a breath of fresh air!!
Goodness and blessings to all...especially those of you in far parts of
the world steeped in tragedy and loss...our prayers are with you for peace
and healing.
