After lurking a couple months & enjoying lots of the comments and info,
here's my intro. I'm the mother of 4 long-term nursers (long since
weaned, now 22, 19, 16 & 13); wife of Allen, resident computer expert;
LLLL since 1976 and recently stepped down after 5 years as APL of WA;
IBCLC since 1987 and work as a clinic nurse and lactation consultant
for a group of pediatricians; teach breastfeeding classes; and rent
breast pumps. Occasionally I work in the garden or clean the kitchen.

Depo - I had talked to an Upjohn drug rep in our clinic last year about
hearing of a number of women who had experienced reductions in milk
supply after the shot. Subsequently I received a letter from their Drug
Experience Specialist with copies of their Medical Event Follow-Up form.
They are interested in obtaining as much clinical information as possible
regarding these events or symptoms. If anyone has specific information
on a case (cases) it should be reported to them so eventually the product
prescribing information can be updated (changed?). E-mail me if you
want more specifics or call Upjohn 1-800-253-8600 (ext 9-8542).

Since I received that letter, I've only worked with one mom I reported
about. She had the shot at 1 month, and had a low milk supply at first.
She was finally nursing without supplements. Within 2 days of the shot
the baby was significantly fussier and less satisfied after nursing.
His closely monitored weight gain stopped completely, and when mom pumped
even at the end of a feeding, the milk appeared "watery" (reduced fat?)
She needed to offer supplements again to get him gaining adequately.

Judy, from Lynnwood, WA after an unbearable 90+ temp weekend, now back
        to cool and comfortable.
