I would argue with you on that score, but grant you that protecting
consumers is a good idea.

But Arly, putting formula on prescription is to take choice away from
mothers, and to put it in the hands of *doctors* who do not have a
good record of understanding infant feeding issues or of supporting
women's choices to breastfeed....speaking generally, of course.

I think consumer protection regarding formula is badly needed.
Consumers should know the truth about the risks involved and they
should be able to insist on (for example) a clean bill of health for
all new ingredients in formula, and a full admission of formula
weaknesses.

This will not happen with prescription-only formula.
