Hi, everyone: Some time ago, a message appeared about a certain Wall Street
Journal reporter's letter to The Compleat Mother. Have tried in vain to
locate the publication (at my local library, a listing was finally found, in
Mildmay, On, Canada, with notation of "unable to locate"). If whoever has
the journal could please provide the address of the publishers and possibly
where to get a copy, I would gladly write a response.
There was also a question about VSD's. Unable to find specific references
re breastfeeding with that particular heart defect, but Lawrence's text of
course states that babies with heart problems tend to do better with
breastfeeding due to the decreased apneic spells and bradycardias seen with
bottles.  VSD's vary in severity; many are small and resolve spontaneously;
others stay clinically stable without need for treatment (except for
antibiotic prophylaxis at the dentist to prevent endocarditis). The larger
ones can be associated with severe congestive heart failure. Hope that
helps.
